The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi , has announced new progress in structuring road projects in Cameroon. These projects, decided by the Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya , and announced in his 2024 end-of-year address, aim to improve the quality of road infrastructure and strengthen accessibility across the country.

The Reconstruction of the Ngaoundéré-Garoua Road

The reconstruction of the 242 km long Ngaoundéré-Garoua road has made significant progress. With the financial support of the African Development Bank, bids were submitted on February 13, 2025 by 23 companies. The calls for tenders cover five separate lots:

– Lot 1: Ngaoundéré-Bas of the Mbe cliff (50 km)

– Lot 2: Bottom of the Cliff-Keroua Bridge (39 km)

– Lot 3: Keroua Bridge-Salah Bridge (77 km)

– Lot 4: Salah Bridge-Entrance to Ouro André Village (56 km)

– Lot 5: Entrance to the Ouro André-Pont Village on the Benoué (56 km)

The Lessor has received proposals from the Technical Studies Offices for the control and supervision of the works. The works themselves may begin in April 2025.

The Reconstruction of the Mora-Dabanga-Kousséri Road

The reconstruction of the 205 km Mora-Dabanga-Kousséri road has also made progress. The World Bank, Technical and Financial Partner, approved the evaluation report of the technical offers of the bidding companies on December 23, 2024. The selection process of the successful bidder has not yet been concluded, due to the suspensive appeal filed by a bidder on January 2, 2025.

Work should start before the end of May 2025, on the following four lots:

– Lot 1: Tchakamari-Waza (41 km)

– Lot 2: Waza-Zigague (46.575 km)

– Lot 3: Zigague-Kabo (53.425 km), with the construction of the bridge over the Mayo Ellbed at Tilde

– Lot 4: Kabo 2-Kousséri (37 km), with the development of the bypass road of the town of Kousseri into 2×2 lanes, 7.5 km

Other Road Projects

Other structural road projects are also underway, such as:

– Maroua-Laf-Magada and Maroua-Bogo-Pouss (63.4 km) in two lots

– Ngaoundere-Paro (70 km)

– The Ebolowa-Akom2-Kribi road, with the bypass of the towns of Ebolowa and Kribi including the Akom II slip road, 179.29 km

These projects aim to improve the quality of road infrastructure and improve accessibility across the country. Work is expected to start soon, with completion times ranging from a few months to several years.
